Overview

Choosing a lawyer is a different decision than choosing most other professionals. By the time most people reach out to a law firm, something has already gone wrong — an accident, an insurance denial, a contract dispute, a family change, an estate that needs administering. The lawyer who answers that call sees the client at a moment when the client cannot easily evaluate them, cannot easily compare them, and cannot easily walk away. That asymmetry is built into the relationship, and it is something every lawyer in this firm takes seriously.

VC Lawyers is structured to remove the most common ways that asymmetry gets exploited. Every client works directly with a senior lawyer — not an intake assistant, not a paralegal billing under a partner's name. The lawyer who hears your story at the consult is the lawyer responsible for your file from intake through resolution. We turn down files we cannot staff at that level. We answer in the client's first language whenever possible. And we tell every client, at the consult, what we think their case is actually worth — in writing — before they decide whether to proceed.

The team below is the result. Two named partners; one Senior Counsel; two associates; one regulated immigration consultant. Six people, working out of one Toronto office, with reach across the GTA and Ontario through video consultations, hospital and home visits, and a 24/7 hotline.

How the team works

Four commitments every client gets

  • Senior counsel on every file

Each member of the firm carries a substantive caseload. The lawyer at intake stays on the file. We say no to clients we cannot staff at that level — even when it costs us the work.
  • Eight languages, in writing

Korean, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Nepali — alongside English. Translation happens in our office, not the client's living room. Major documents are issued in both the original language and English.
  • Direct partner access

Each client is given the direct line of the lawyer handling their file. After-hours emergencies route through the 24/7 hotline to a lawyer — not voicemail and not an answering service.
  • Hospital and home visits

When a client cannot travel — recovering from a serious injury, caring for a child, or otherwise constrained — a lawyer comes to them. Free, anywhere in the GTA.

Meet the team

Senior counsel, partners, associates and consultant

Six people. One Toronto office. Seventy-plus years of combined practice across personal injury, real estate, corporate, family, civil litigation, and immigration.

Maurice Vaturi — Senior Counsel at VC Lawyers Toronto

Senior Counsel

Maurice Vaturi

Maurice Vaturi serves as Senior Counsel at VC Lawyers — the firm's most senior advisor on complex civil and corporate matters. Maurice's caseload is intentionally narrow. He works alongside the partners on files that demand the most experience: high-value commercial disputes, intricate real-estate transactions, and personal-injury files where strategic judgement on settlement-versus-trial decisions matters more than procedural execution.

Maurice is part of the Vaturi family that gives the firm half of its name. The role of Senior Counsel exists, in part, so that even an associate-led file at VC Lawyers benefits from the instincts of a senior practitioner at the moments those instincts matter most.

To reach Maurice directly, email mvaturi@vclawyers.ca or call the firm. Detailed credentials, education, bar-admission year, and notable cases will be published on Maurice's individual profile page when content is finalised.

Avi Vaturi — Partner at VC Lawyers Toronto

Partner

Avi Vaturi

Avi Vaturi is one of the firm's two named partners and leads the real-estate and corporate-commercial practice. Real estate at VC Lawyers means residential and commercial purchases, sales and refinances; title insurance and mortgage closings; title-fraud rectification; and litigation when transactions go sideways. The firm's real-estate group has closed more than 4,000 files. Corporate work spans business incorporations under OBCA and CBCA, shareholder agreements, share and asset purchases, commercial leases, supplier and distribution contracts, and corporate governance.

Avi works directly with Toronto's Hebrew-speaking community alongside his English-speaking practice. He is the lawyer most clients meet when their need crosses both real-estate and corporate-commercial lines — a pattern especially common for small-business owners who are buying premises, structuring family ownership, or planning succession.

To reach Avi directly, email avaturi@vclawyers.ca. Detailed credentials and case history will appear on Avi's individual profile page when content is finalised.

Jae Hyon Cho — Partner at VC Lawyers Toronto

Partner

Jae Hyon Cho

Languages: English · Korean

Jae Hyon Cho is one of the firm's two named partners and leads the personal-injury and civil-litigation practice. The personal-injury group represents accident victims across the full range of motor-vehicle, catastrophic, premises-liability, workplace and disability files — including the SABS / Licence Appeal Tribunal disputes that decide whether an accident benefits claim is funded at the standard $65,000 limit or the catastrophic-impairment limit of more than $1 million. The civil-litigation group handles commercial disputes, contract enforcement, and Superior Court of Justice matters.

Jae handles Korean-language files end-to-end, alongside his English practice. He is the lawyer the firm's Korean-speaking clients most often work with, whether the matter is a car-accident claim, a wrongful-death file, an employment dispute, or a cross-border family-asset question. When a Korean-speaking client's matter touches Korea-side assets, family relationships, or court proceedings, Jae coordinates with the firm's Seoul lawyer network so both sides of the file move together.

Jae publishes legal education content for Korean-speaking accident victims on Instagram (@jaecho_lawyer) and YouTube (@jaethelawyer). To reach Jae directly, email jcho@vclawyers.ca.

Jun Ki Lee — Associate at VC Lawyers Toronto

Associate

Jun Ki Lee

Languages: English · Korean

Jun Ki Lee is an associate at VC Lawyers and works primarily on the firm's Korean-language personal-injury, civil-litigation and disability files. In practice that means he is on the file from the intake call through the SABS application, the medical-evidence assembly, the negotiation with the at-fault insurer, and — if necessary — the Licence Appeal Tribunal hearing or Superior Court trial. He works closely with Jae Hyon Cho on the Korean-language side of the practice.

Jun is also the firm's primary point of contact for Korean-speaking clients on questions that do not strictly need a partner's involvement — case status updates, document review, evidence collection, and the dozens of practical questions that come up between major file milestones. The intent of the structure is that a Korean-speaking client never has to wait for partner availability to get a substantive answer in their first language.

To reach Jun directly, email jun@vclawyers.ca. Detailed credentials and case history will be published on Jun's individual profile page when content is finalised.

Allan Weiss — Associate at VC Lawyers Toronto

Associate

Allan Weiss

Allan Weiss is an associate at VC Lawyers and works primarily on the firm's civil-litigation and corporate-commercial files. Allan supports both partners on the files that span both practices — commercial disputes, shareholder litigation, contract enforcement, and the corporate side of estate matters where business interests need to be unwound or transferred between generations.

Allan also supports the personal-injury group on appellate work and on civil-claim aspects of complex catastrophic files where the same incident gives rise to both a tort claim and a separate cause of action against a non-driver defendant.

To reach Allan directly, email aweiss@vclawyers.ca. Detailed credentials, education, and case history will appear on Allan's individual profile page when content is finalised.

Kate Min Kwon — Immigration Consultant at VC Lawyers Toronto

Immigration Consultant

Kate Min Kwon

RCIC R529664 · RQIC 11726

Languages: English · Korean

Kate Min Kwon is the firm's Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC R529664; RQIC 11726, additionally licensed in Quebec). Kate leads the immigration practice — family sponsorship, spousal sponsorship, parental and grandparental sponsorship, work and study permits, permanent residence applications, and refusal appeals. Korean-speaking clients work with Kate end-to-end; the firm's lawyers consult on her files when an immigration matter intersects with criminal, family-law, or employment questions.

Immigration is regulated in Canada under the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). Kate's RCIC and RQIC numbers are publicly verifiable through the CICC and the Quebec Ministry's registries respectively.

To reach Kate directly, email kate@vclawyers.ca. A detailed practice description — including the specific visa categories handled, success rates by application type, and notable refusal-appeal results — will be published on Kate's individual profile page when content is finalised.

VC Lawyers lawyers in Korean-language client consultation

Languages

Eight languages across the firm

Almost a third of Toronto’s population speaks a language other than English at home. The legal system, however, is built almost entirely in English — written contracts, doctor’s reports, OCF forms, court pleadings, settlement agreements. When clients hand off comprehension to a family member or a paid interpreter, important details get lost.

We staff the firm so in-language representation is the default, not an exception. Jae Hyon Cho and Jun Ki Lee handle Korean files end-to-end and coordinate with our network in Seoul on cross-border family, estate and asset matters. Avi Vaturi and Maurice Vaturiwork in Hebrew with Toronto’s Jewish community. Kate Min Kwon handles Korean-language immigration end-to-end. Across the firm we have working capability in French, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin and Nepali, depending on lawyer assignment.

Major documents — settlement agreements, retainer agreements, status updates — are translated into the client’s first language by the lawyer on the file, so what the client signs is what they understood.

How matters get assigned

Who handles what at the firm

If you are not sure which lawyer your matter should go to, the front-desk team triages files at intake and routes you to the right person within 24 hours. The default routing logic is below.

  • Personal injury, motor-vehicle, disability and SABS files

Lead by Jae Hyon Cho with associate Jun Ki Lee for Korean-language matters. Maurice Vaturi serves as senior advisor on the highest-value catastrophic and tort cases.
  • Real estate, corporate, and commercial matters

Lead by Avi Vaturi with associate Allan Weiss. Maurice Vaturi consulted on cross-border deals and complex shareholder disputes.
  • Wills, estates, and probate

Co-led between the partners, depending on whether the matter is closer to estate-administration / civil litigation (Jae) or estate-planning / business succession (Avi). Korean-language estate planning is handled by Jae and Jun Ki Lee.
  • Family law and separation

Coordinated by the partner whose existing client relationship the matter touches. Korean-language family files are handled by Jae and Jun Ki Lee in cooperation with our Seoul referral network for cross-border asset and custody questions.
  • Civil litigation, contract disputes, commercial litigation

Lead by Jae Hyon Cho with associate Allan Weiss. Maurice Vaturi advises on appellate matters and high-value commercial disputes.
  • Immigration, family sponsorship, work and study permits

Lead by Kate Min Kwon (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, RCIC R529664; RQIC 11726). Korean-language immigration matters are handled by Kate end-to-end.
